Oven Baked Crispy Chicken

There is nothing like oven baked crispy chicken to make your day a million times better!  This is one of my all time favorite chicken recipes because it doesn’t involve the 3 plates of dipping into flour then egg, then into breadcrumbs plus it packs A TON of flavor!

I saw a version of this recipe and fell in love with it immediately but, I added my own twists in like kicking up the spiciness a notch, plus you can never have to much garlic, and a few others ingredients that just bring it to another level.

Even on HOT summer days, this will become one of your favorites to make since the breading is so light and so crispy (and not greasy like you would expect with some breaded chicken) plus, this one is air fryer friendly!  The oven is my choice for cooking this but, feel free to make use of that air fryer that might still be sitting in the box!  🙂

Oven Baked Crispy Chicken

A light alternative to your favorite fried chicken recipe that can be made in the oven or even in the air fryer! This recipe makes a lot of chicken since I'm sure your family will want seconds!

Ingredients
  

  • 5-6 Lbs Bone in Chicken Thighs, Skin On
  • 1 1/2 tsp Each Salt and Pepper

For the Mustard

  • 4-5 Garlic Cloves, Minced
  • 3 Tbsp Spicy Mustard
  • 4 Tbsp Grainy Mustard
  • Dash Salt and Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Onion Flakes
  • 3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Dash Cayenne Pepper Optional

For the Bread Crumbs

  • 1 1/2 C Panko Bread Crumbs (unseasoned)
  • 1 tsp Each Salt and Pepper
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Onion Flakes
  • 4 Tbsp Butter, melted
  • 1 tsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Grated Lemon Zest
  • 1-2 Tbsp Fresh Parsley, chopped
  • Dash of Crushed Red Pepper Optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Prepare a baking sheet with a wire rack or a broiler pan.
    **If you are making this in your air fryer, follow the instructions for your particular brand.
  • Season chicken with salt and pepper on both sides. Combine the ingredients for the mustard and mix well. Follow with combining the ingredients for the panko bread crumbs, mix well.
  • Dredge the chicken in mustard mixture and then into the panko mixture. Place on your baking sheet and continue with the rest of the chicken.
  • Bake in preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes, until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F and the breading is crispy and golden brown.

Notes

If you want to make this less spicy, omit the cayenne pepper and the crushed red pepper.
